این نگرانی ها پس از آن بیشتر شد كه مخالفان دولت تصاویر و اخباری از تیموشنكو در زندان و نشانه هایی از كبودی بر بدن وی را منتشر و اعلام كردند كه رییس جمهوری اوكراین مدعی اصلی رقیب سیاسی خود است.

از سوی دیگر، دولت آمریكا و اتحادیه اروپا پیش از برگزاری دادگاه و صدور حكم، در مورد احتمال دخالت‌های سیاسی در این پرونده ابراز نگرانی كرده بودند.

برخی مقام‌های اتحادیه اروپا نیز اوكراین را تهدید كرده بودند كه در صورت زندانی شدن تیموشنكو، ممكن است قراردادهای اقتصادی این كشور به خطر بیافتد.

بر اساس گزارش ها، در تازه ترین اقدام، رییسان جمهوری آلمان، ایتالیا، اتریش، چك و اسلوونی برنامه سفر خود را به اوكراین لغو كرده اند تا نشست كی یف با اهمیت كمتری برگزار شود.

افزون بر محدود شدن دایره این نشست مهم، احتمال تحریم رقابت های فوتبال اروپا توسط كشورهای شركت كننده كه 19 خرداد ماه آغاز خواهد شد نیز بر نگرانی یانوكویچ افزوده است، به گونه ای كه روز دوشنبه كی یف به برلین درباره احتمال اتخاذ چنین تصمیمی هشدار داد.

هرچند فدراسیون فوتبال اروپا (یوفا) تاكید كرده است كه حذف میزبانی اوكراین و تعیین كشوری دیگر با توجه به زمان كوتاه باقی مانده تا آغاز رقابت ها، ممكن نیست اما در صورت تحریم رسمی چند كشور مهم اروپایی، سطح این رقابت ها تنزل خواهد یافت و مقامات اوكراینی نمی توانند به اهداف این میزبانی برسند.

تیموشنكو كه زمانی در ملاقات با سران كشورهای قدرتمند به بانوی آهنین و رازآلود شهرت یافته بود، اكنون نیز نه تنها برای اوكراین بلكه برای اروپا به یكی از مهمترین موضوع ها تبدیل شده است و در سوی مقابل، اصرار حكومت اوكراین بر ادامه وضعیت كنونی، بر رازهای این پرونده جنجالی افزوده است.

در برابر دولت كه مدارك و استنادات مجرمیت را در دادگاه قطعی می داند، حامیان تیموشنكو بر این نكته تاكید می كنند كه كسب موفقیت در انتخابات پارلمانی، هدف نهایی حكومت اوكراین است و با توجه به اینكه نظرسنجی ها نیز احتمال پیروزی جناح مخالف را بیش از گذشته ارزیابی می كند، مقامات سیاسی كی یف حاضر نمی شوند سایه خود را از این پرونده دور كنند.
